Even the earliest civilizations created monuments with an uncanny ability to accurately track the suns annual seasonal cycles. The earliest peoples not only tracked the length of the year, they also plotted the longest and shortest days of the year, what we know today as the equinoxes, winter solstice and summer solstice.
